Regarding removing the door sill, just got this note from Marcus. (Great response. I need one of these things!)

on the picture you see the desmanteled skirt panel.
You have to turn up the skirt panaling on the driverside and take it away
in a sideway. You don't need any tools.

I take this to mean that you lift the plastic stuff on the inside (carpet side) and slide the panel outward, away from the car ...

Think I will order one of these myself. Can anyone confirm whether it's the driver's side or Passenger side sill we need to remove on UK cars? Would hate to remove the wrong one and have to start over again!

Hopefully someone from the UK will have this installed before the 15th!

I know the cars in the UK, Japan and Australia are right hand drives (i.e., driver on the right side of the car). Are the cars in Germany left hand drive like those in the US? This might give a clue as to which side of the car the wiring harness is channeled in.

Yes Germany is LHD, just like North America.

Oh ya gonna make me blush!!!

Door sills - really easy, honest!!!

Unclip the current door sill, see the photo below of the door step with no sill. The clips are on the inside of the door, and the sill has a small lip that fits round the door step on the outside. So to remove the sill pull it up from inside the door and then move it out from the door step.

You'll be able to get your fingers under the sill on the inside and then just sort of pull it out and up and it will unclip - starting at one end and then working your way down willl help!!! Once it's unclipped from all the clips, you can just pull it up and towards you (the outside) and then away from the car to get it off. Some brut force is required

If ya need more - just let me know.

Shin, if you can post any clarifications to the english install instructions, that would help everyone!

Re: Aftermarket remote vario roof modules - pic now included within

Yeah, I think I will post better instructions... that is, once I get it working

For some reason, the red led on the module doesn't turn on (i.e. an indication that it received electricity). I hooked it up to the other red cable as indicated (the 12v cable), but nothing.

If I turn the car on, I get a "vario roof error, go to workshop" error message! However, if I put all the cables back in their original place, the error message disappears (phew).

So I removed it from my car, and everything is back to normal and working as it should.

I contacted Piecha for more information, perhaps the module was just broken... I guess it can happen on the first few which are made, so this'll have to wait a bit. But I can get cracking on the install instructions.

Oh, and if you know what you're doing, the installation really is just 20 minutes. In itself, it's really simple.

Piecha said that the red light should light up when the ground wire is correctly fastened... I'm waiting for a bit more instructions in regards to that, since the installation instructions show a screw, and black M4 cap nut, whilst I have just one silver colored cap nut... maybe just user error on my part.

But it could also mean I didn't get the right piece, now that I think about it.

Ok, either the power cable is not the right one, and there should be another one in there, or the brown cable is not getting proper contact, and the reason could be that they forgot to send me the kit with a ringeyelet which must be used to screw down the brown cable correctly... I only have the M4 cap...

I'll keep you informed... gonna go buy the screw piece

Well, I bought the required screw and tightly fastened the ground connector. The red and green led lit up.

However, the roof functions via the key don't work...

If I keep the end call button pressed down, after 3 seconds, the indicator lights lit up briefly. Ok, so I think maybe now it's activated. I tried it again, but the roof still won't open or close remotely by pressing three times the open/close buttons, and holding the open button down for 1 second will not cause the roof to automatically open up

Waiting for more info from Piecha...

NEWS STOP! IIIIIT WOOOOOORKS!!!

Ok, I figured it out :D

Here's what you need to do. When the key is in position 1, you hold down the steering wheel "end call" button for three seconds.

If you see the indicator lights (both of them, left and right) flash once, it means that the device is turned off. If you do the same thing again, the indicator lights will flash TWICE! NOW it is turned ON!

So, what do you do next? Press the "unlock door" button three times? NO, THAT'S WRONG!

You press it once, to unlock the doors, and then three times to open the roof! Yes, you have to press it 4 times, FOUR times in total. Once quick to unlock, and then another 3 quick times to open the roof!

I was only pressing it three times everytime, and then I suddenly got pissed and just pressed the button something like 10 times and WHAM! The roof began to open :D

I'm pleased Better write up the instructions as I saw them, and post them here for your information.

Yes, I confirm, the roof module WORKS!

Thanks for the hard work...and sharing your experience !

Had the first reports today that the module definitely can´t be found via the star diagnosis system. Nevertheless the guys from the workshop seemed pretty impressed when they saw the roof module working.

Awesome, Shinigami! Congratulations. I bet you were feeling pretty empty and alone there for a while.

When you say the "unlock door button", is that the button on the dash, or the key? The key, right? Do you use unlock to go down, lock to go up? Four times each way?

Sounds like it would be nice to bring the LEDs to somewhere visible, to know if it's on or off ...

If you park top down and lock ... does it take four pushes later, or just three?

Give us the scoop, the skinny, the info, the buzz.

Way cool! You had me scared for a while there! Well done!

I'm curious, does the automatic window down stuff Marcus mentioned over at benzworld exist in your mod? I would like some more details about that functionality.
