Service Indicator Reset

Attached is the procedure to reset the Service Indicator on the W164's. Your Owner's Manual will tell you to take it to the dealer to have this done. Now you can do it yourself..

Re: Service Indicator Reset

Perfect for the DIY oil changers. I'm due for my first in a couple of months. I figure by that time the Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-40 oil will be a bit more available.

I am thinking of making my own oil evac pump by using an AC evac pump from Harbor Freight and a big old gas/diesel 2.5 or 5 gal container. The AC evac pump @ Harbor Freight is on sale for $10 and some hoses and I'll be in business.

92475-1VGA Central Pneumatic AIR VACUUM PUMP WITH R134A CONNECTOR

I know Harbor Freight isn't known for their top of the line tools but when you only need this every once-in-a-while I figure why not.

I suspect the AC evac pump will be able to create enough vacuum to suck the oil up the dip-stick hole and into a container. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks.

Don't hold your breath on that oil. I was told that it will only be available through MB dealers in North America. Mine charged me $5.25/qt a few months ago; and that's a whole lot cheaper than Amsoil or Redline. But I think it's also an inferior oil compared to those two.

RE: Service Indicator Reset

Dutch, You are the bomb for posting this! Just changed oil in the wife's ml320 cdi & after getting stone-walled by the local dealer, found your post & it's a piece of cake! I have an '03 G & my daughter has a C230, so I'm sure I'll really come to appreciate this forum. Thanks again.

Re: Service Indicator Reset

Has anybody successfully reset the Service Indicator as per the attached brochure here?

I tried to follow steps but i don't hear the acoustic signal noted in step 3. Neither do i get response to buttons in Step 5. So, I didn't even continue further.

Has anybody else ran into same issue when executing these steps?
If yes, any suggestions?

Thanks

In the W163 the door had to be closed when you did it. Maybe its the same case with the W164?

I've never heard any tone when I reset mine; and it resets just fine.

Attached is an updated version of the reset procedure. No mention of any tones there either.

Not sure what is "number 10". Also, what year and model do you have?

Re: Service Indicator Reset

Do you have any information on how to reset the service indicator on the 2001 ml320? This model is not equipped with the display buttons shown in the service indicator guide you posted.
