Re: blower motor comparison question

Fernando BR - 3/20/2012 5:33 AM

My 300GE uses the same blower motor used on 300GD , in that case same pn 000 830 62 08 . Mercedes made a kit to transfer the resistor to engine house , nothing more than a wire and a new shape resistor , easy to place at engine house. Its 4 speed , but the day i have to open 300GD box (please nooooooooo) i will change resistor to e.house with an adapted 3 speed one.

Question please, slightly off topic:
Is there such a kit for non-AC 300GE? Any part numbers on hand...

Cool!....I mean....Warm!

So you were able to pull the plastic fan off the motor shaft? The only time I tried it was on a spare old one I had and it was NOT coming off without breaking. There wasn't much to get ahold of if I remember right. Can you share what method you used to get the fan off the old motor? Did you warm it up in an oven or something? Thanks for the reminder, Loki!

Re: blower motor comparison question

I heated the fan with 80°C water and it came off easily. (I have nearly endless access to 80°+ geothermal water from tap)

Loki,
This is the motor we're talking about.

If I remember correctly -it was a single fan blower

RE: blower motor comparison question

In the post he linked, Loki was talking about the heater fan (non AC). The spring clips on the squirl cages of the AC blower look like they'd make it easier to remove than the regular heater fan. On the ones I've looked at, that was just plastic pressed onto the motor shaft. Next time I'll have to try Loki's idea of warming it up in hot water.

-Dave G.

PS - Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread to the plain heater blower, but maybe someone who makes the same mistake I did will be helped by Loki's info being linked in here. Thanks for the indulgence. Back to the AC blower info. Hopefuly we can get to the bottom of the high speed overheating issue with the more affordable motor.

Re: blower motor comparison question

Cool, i understand. I knew what he was talking about, I just wasnt sure he knew what Zimm was talking about. Both types are pressed on in the same manner if my memory serves me. I think I used a puller with 8 or 10mm bolts.
You guys are going to make me pull my unit apart to get tot the bottom of this arent you? I feel it coming.

RE: blower motor comparison question

Here's a pic of the inside of the AC air box from an '85 460.

The resistor shown in this photo looks the same as my AC blower resistor. The three speed resistor fourbyforclub sells looks very different with a coiled wire resistor.

I am restoring a 460 AC heater blower box over the coming weeks to install in my 280GE which is currently only set up with dedicated aftermarket AC. I'm replacing the fan motor as it doesn't spin easily by hand. The HVAC unit came out of a neglected 460 parts car that sat for 10 years.

My plan, replace heater core, blower motor and maybe resistor. The AC evaporator is going out for cleaning and testing in the next couple of days.

Is there any thing I am missing or should also be considering?

Re: blower motor comparison question

I did find that the heater core is available aftermarket for $60 and under. It's NSF 53555, the original MB unit is $200, both have the plastic nipples and end plates.

I ordered the 124 blower motor as well, hopefully I can get the fan cages off with hot water as previously described.
