Checkin' out the tranny... Again

So this morning coming into work I noticed a weird change in my ML. I was entering the highway and i usually get up to 85+ doing this and right at 80 there was this very noticeable shift that seemed to be a hesitation. From there I tried to make it happen again, pushing the pedal to the metal and seeing if it would shift weird again. To my surprise it did not.

Got to work found out I left something at home, had to drive 30 minutes back home. But when I got there it did it again!! Since i have this jazzy little mityvac I am going to be taking out some fluid and inspecting it to see if there are any metal shards in it..

Maybe there isn't enough tranny fluid  in there and it was just a slip. I need to pick up the dipstick to check.

Peter, thanks for the heads up on the tranny dipstick. Good luck with yours.

What is weird about mine is that it runs fine. Shifts up fine and down fine. Only going at high speeds it does that... Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.. Could be the wires or the plugs (misfire?)... But i get no CEL. I will look into this more...

Does it do it if you keep it in 4th gear? If so, it would eliminate the transmission as the culprit, maybe we are all a bit sensitive about transmissions at the moment.

Re: Checkin' out the tranny... Again

As it does seem very minor, If it is just a possible fluid loss i rather replace it now, then find out down the line that my tranny is blown!

Re: Checkin' out the tranny... Again

oh no! .... 1 Year isn't much! for a transmission? ... it's supposed to last at least 5-10 years with normal driving!.
With my luck it will probably break a few days after the waranty runs out!

Re: Checkin' out the tranny... Again

Well got off work today. Got on the highway and gave the truck hell. Going from 40mph to 100mph, making sure each gear gets shifted. Seems to shift fine. I am still going to check the levels.

No sweat, my heart sunk for you. I know the last thing you need is for that trans to give up.
