Darkmann Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | ML Oil Leak I noticed this on my 01 E430 and also on my 05 500 - oil leak near the passenger's side coil packs. The shop thinks it's from the valve cover gasket but I agree with many in the 210 forum that it's the oil collector. I did clean the E's leak area and for a month now, I don't see any oils - so, it's definitely not the gasket. In any case, if you're interested in my original post on this, go here: http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=7291&... I happen to believe it's a common problem with these V8 engines so please if you don't mind, would you pop off the plstic engine cover and let us all know if you have a oily mess in the passenger side motor. Thanks. For those who aren't mechanically inclined, the plastic cover just pops off - pull on the sides and the think will simply come off. Below are some pics of my ML's right side!!! Also, please let's know what year. I will post this on all three popular W163 sites. Was it the valve cover seal? It appears that the seepage is around the gaskets. I've been tempted to tighten the bolts but I've stopped before doing it because I'm afraid that it will break them loose and leak worse.

Yes it was the valve cover gasket. I had them do the ML but haven' done the E yet. Was quoted $200, the fix the thing and hope it doesn't leak anymore. My understanding is that it's pretty straightforward to do, except for the expensive gasket material which you get only from MB. Edited by Darkmann 11/7/2007 8:52 PM
