Estimate..........$15,900 dollars...........

Here is the situation.....l have started to notice some rust on my 2002 ML 55,(rear hatch, all 4 doors on the insides, on the bottom) and anyone who knows me, knows that l am very anal with my vehicle....So l brought it in to the dealership, and they said to take it to the bodyshop next door, which is called "Mitek"....great guys to deal with....So after 3 weeks of e-mails bought and forth from MB Canada and the dealership, the estimate comes back at $15,900 and MB will cover 75%, and l am on the hook for the other 25%( $4000.00........) So what do l do ???????Do l invest $4000.00 dollars into a vehicle with 125,000 KM's and 5 years old, or do l move on to another vehicle......Now l should be appreciative for MB for covering 75%, but should a Mercedes , that is only 5 years old be rusting to the extent of $15,900 dollars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carlos,
Was this vehicle hit and repainted at some point? That's the only way I'd see so much rust in such a short amount of time.
My ML is 8 years old, sits outside 100% of the time and is driven daily through the worst of new england winters and the relentless chemicals and salt sprays. It also sits unwashed during the winter for weeks at at a time.

But apart from a little rust where the front fender flare meets the car body (which i took care of with dremel and touch up paint) the ML has been rust free....

Anyway I thought MB's came with a 10 year rust corrossion warranty?

In any case to answer your question - 75% coverage on such an extensive repair (judging by cost it seems they will replace the body panels and repaint them) that's a pretty good deal - but if it's been in an accident and repainted I wonder what kind of rust is on the frame, etc...

Good points....no, it has never been in a accident, and l would like to confirm that 10 year corrosion warranty issue...........l know 75% is a good deal...but it shouldn't be rusting after such a short time...

Did you ever consider that it is really a 4k-8k repair , and this paperwork is just to con you into thinking it's a good deal ?......

I would get detail on the 16K worth of work tasks and what they are really fixing .... so you can validate how meaningfulyour 4k is actually is....

with respect to the 25% ..... I would be arguing that you are not interested in brand new doors, hatch , etc.... but only interested in non-rusting ones. If the product is made properly, then you wouldn't need to spend any money at all... the wear & tear does not warrant 4k expenses on your part.

A professional body shop could sand all down to base, get rid of the rust and then apply a sweet finish with hand buffed clearcoat for $6,000. Sounds like a con job. As for the rust corrosion warranty: That's for rust through.

RE: Estimate..........$15,900 dollars...........

I agree with all the comments above. I also live in New England with all the winter salt and my 98 ML only has a little spot of rust on the bottom of the gas filler door. Your dealer will be negotiating their 75% portion of the repair costs down to almost nothing so you should be able to negotiate your 25% down to less than $200. If not, then you will know that the dealer is screwing you.

15,900!!! What are they going to do?? start over with a new body, paint it with nano-ceramic paint.

That sounds really high C. I had my 928 repainted by the Porsche dealer here, and it was about 8K and the car was absolutly flawless when I got it back (after two months), but they did a full on paint job, removing everything that should be, the result was show car quality.

Fro almost 16K you could probably pick up the body of a 55 on e-bay.
