Ebox Fan

My Ebox fan has started screeching again (I oiled it a couple of years ago) so I decided time to replace it, but Mb want $200 for the replacement part only !!! I mean to fit it myself as it is an easy job.

I spoke to Papst (who make the fan) and they refused to sell it to me stating "We have an agreement with Mb not to sell these fans to third parties". The guy was quite open about it and even gave me his name.

Does anyone know of another, more reasonably priced, source of these fans?

The Papst number is RV40-18/12L.

Thanks, but Duval Motors won't ship outside the US and I live in UK, do you perhaps know any source in Europe?

Quote from MB Frankfurt:

Gebläse EUR 98,50 MB 1295450095

Try your local dealer with that part number, and it may be less than qhat he quoted.

Thanks again Wolfgang, MB want £103 (Eur 151) in the UK for that part number.

Either I bite the bullet and pay through the nose or I go for a week's holiday to Germany, get the ML serviced for 30% less than in the UK and have a holiday for the same money.

Another idea is the failure prone Bosch fan. It may be easier to source and less expensive in the UK.

Maybe I have missed this information in all of the various posts on at least 3 forums but I've never seen a link, complete name/type of business, location or phone number listed - what's up with that? And no one has been able to locate a $20 replacement motor here in the US?

Marcelc, I'd be happy to get the part for you and send it to you in the UK - I already do this very thing for my VehiCROSS owners who can't get our stuff across the pond. I use EMS / USPS Priority mail or any method you choose. Email me.

Some folks found a replacement motor a while back. The OEM motor is made by Johnson Electric in Hongkong.

I prefer the brushless ebm-pabst motor.

Oops, sorry I didn't see your kind offer earlier.

The fan only screeches a little on startup on cold mornings and I could easily oil it again, however, I feel like not giving way to big business marketing who rip off the British even more than they rip off the rest of the world.

So I am going to apply some pressure of my own for a while and see how I get on, but thanks for the kind offer.

Thanks for the kind offer, I have oiled it again which will, no doubt, last the winter and I will allow myself a German holiday next year if all goes well. I have a few other things to buy from there as well.

RE: Ebox Fan

check out the R230 forum. I'm a little interested in giving my SL a little update.... I like the fins + Side skirts.... got to be careful not to turn it into a "bling" machine...
