| G-AMG G-Class DIY Host Date registered: May 2006 Location: South Texas Vehicle(s): '04 G55, '80 280GE, '99 S420, '98 E320, 2011 E350  | Photo DIY- V-Belt Changes M110 Engine Greets. Since IKE was kind enough to "magically" bypass us (my condolences to our Houston Brethren) , I had time this week-end to deal with my old V-Belts, some of which have a bit of a squeal. I also got my new A/C hoses installed. I had difficulty finding Conti Belts in the appropriate sizes, so I gave up and bought them from my dealer. I was surprised to see them use US made belts (Gates), and one German brand "Optibelt". PLEASE NOTE!--- These Belt Sizes are for MY M110 Engine (110 994) with Diavia Aftermarket A/C. Please consult your EPC for your correct part numbers, or BETTER YET, check the belts you PRESENTLY have. My EPC showed a A/C belt 20mm TOO SHORT. Alternator Belt- 10mm by 960mm Power Steering- 13mm by 1000mm A/C- 13mm by 1395mm. Going from the Owner's Manual, I would have thought this job to be a fairly "No-Brainer". It ended up being a moderate "pain in the butt". For such a spacious engine bay, I found it surprisingly difficult to access the various bolts. I think I must have gone through a dozen or more combinations of spanners, sockets (6 and 12 point, U-Joint), ratchet wrenches, etc, in order to free the "frozen" bolts. Certainly, not what I was expecting for a "field-servicable" vehicle. I would never DREAM of trying this in the Gobi Desert at night, in snow......... The worst "salt on the wound" was having to do the whole adjustment ordeal AFTER the 15 minute drive. Now, accessing these spaces with HOT ENGINE/Radiator.. was a challenge. PLEASE use long sleeves/gloves when doing the final adjustment. Anyhooo, it is one of those needed evils to care for our trucks. Per the manual, one needs to Check/Re-Tighten the Belts each 6,000 Miles!!
