| Photo DIY- Front Door Panel Removal W463
Yes, this may be a bit "esoteric" but, perhaps it might help someone down the road.
Due to a need to remove my door handle (see next post for the "drama"), I had to take the door panel off.
No "tricks", other than the two items noted in the pics.
Re-Install is opposite of install, just be sure to re-seal the barrier/"foil" well.

The only "trick" I can add is rubber tubing for the lock mechanism, as opposed to a screwdriver. Cut a 3 to 4 inch length of 1/8th irrigation tubing (or vacuum tubing), twist it on to the lock shaft, and it really aids in lining up with the hole in the door panel.
Thanks for the great pictures, I had always wondered how the trim panels around the windows were removed (those which the door panel slide under). |

While I had mine off, I put a thin layer of dynamat dynaliner on the backside of the door panel. Made a huge difference especially when I did the tailgate. It significantly reduced the road noise plus the boom of a slamming tailgate.

While I had mine off, I put a thin layer of dynamat dynaliner on the backside of the door panel. Made a huge difference especially when I did the tailgate. It significantly reduced the road noise plus the boom of a slamming tailgate.
03 - did you install dynamat on all your doors? I had considered this as I was replacing my RR window regulator. I also installed new speakers while I was in there (rear doors only). I noticed that there was OEM sound deadening on the doors. It looks like maybe some sort of fiberous board material about 1/16" thickness. So i was wondering if it would be a benefit to add the dynamat? You say " huge difference" so that is why I was wondering which doors (or all) you installed dynamat on and did you remove the OEM sound deadening material? Thanks

Yes, I did install it on all the doors without removing any factory deadening material.
I stuck it to the rear of the panel so that it would not need to be removed if I needed access inside the door panel.
It made the G quieter and seemed to add a temperature barrier as well. The panels were not as cold in the winter.

Thanks for a great write up, all of my door skins will be pulled today installing damplifier pro an improved dynamat sound deadening materiel also new seat control switches and interior door handles plus replacement of the dealer mangled vapor barriers . |

I'd be curious to see how those sound deadening panels work for you.
Hmmmm, I sure hope the dealer is going to fix the mangled vapor barrier for you..... If they DON'T, I would expect they at least give you the new materials.....
I would definately also get new Sealant for the barrier. I looked all thru the Sealants section of the EPC, and I couldn't find the part number for the stuff (the Tarry, Rubbery Sealant). Maybe your Stealer's Parts guy can help....

Excellent write up as always Patrick. If you ever get a chance, could you post a photo of the "end" of your prybar used to pull the panel out ? I do want to add a thread to this post showing written detail on the door handle/latch adjustment, which has a good attachment by Mortinson.. Thanks Patrick, I was very curious what the "end" looked like (size of the V opening). This would be a handy tool to have for most any door panel it seems. I have broke my share of door clips on many vehicles, but mostly due to not knowing where the clips are. Your photo essay shows clip placement for the G....that will be helpful for most. mike

The only "M-B" part numbered material is the "TeroKal" shown in the post, but this is NOT the black, gummy stuff you are looking for.... rather it is the "Yellow-Brown" adhesive seen in other M-B models. |

Would like to buy some.
Seems that this black sealer is actually sold as "butyl tape". Lots of options for it out there.
I ended up using a precision heat gun (from my wife's craft toolbox :P ) to warm it up little by little, and re-attached the barrier that way. Worked well, at least, so far.
