Photo DIY- Rear Brake Pad Change, G500

I volunteered to help a friend of mine out who just bought a '05 G500 CPO truck from the local stealership. Without going into too much detail... I strongly encouraged to have him bring it by for the Temple Monkey to look at... I'm glad I did, as even novice me found lots-O-stuff needing attention.

The experience scared the ca-ca out of me.. I will never buy a CPO MB if this is the "seal of approval" Benz considers the industry standard. Besides the Algae in the brake lines, Sludge in the visible engine workings, Brown "mud" in the Differential lines, the list goes on.

The reason I am doing this post is the 2 mm of remaining brake material on the rear brakes. How can you release a vehicle with brakes BELOW the service limit???

Since I don't like the idea of squirting dirty, old brake fluid "backwards/upstream", I opted to Bleed the brake system *PRIOR* to doing the pad change, so when I press back the pistons, it is "clean" fluid.

See the previous post: http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums/showthread.php?tid=12456&po... for the bleeding procedure.

PLEASE NOTE! The most Updated WIS specifies the Bleeding Screws are to be torqued to 15 Nm, which is HIGHER than numbers on my post.

Be sure you apply the brakes several times to equalize the braking system, BEFORE venturing out onto the roadways....

Lovely...I just can't believe the tools are that clean :p My brake brush (after only 1 pad change) looked a lot worse for wear...the original MB part number is almost unreadable...I guess there's nothing like getting a car from a careful owner with mechanical knowledge.
