Photo DIY- Complete Fuel System Treatment

Greets.

As a Preface- I am NOT Advocating this procedure since it is basically contradicting M-B's Manual "Fuel Additives are Neither NEEDED nor Recommended"

The reason "I" am doing this is because TWO of my Trusted MB Lead-Tech's/Master Mechanics (one of which is also on the regional Racing circuit) SWEAR that this is NOT a "Voodoo Chicken"... and one of the Techs states "Their Dealership ROUTINELY does this procedure on ALL Major Services".

Since I was working-up a "rough idle" problem on the W140, I was at the "Clean Throttle Body" part of the Mental Diagnostic Flow-Chart. "I might as well service all my cars while I'm at it.." Because I have read a bunch of times the suggestion to "Clean the Throttle Body"... I have YET to run across any PHOTOS of "How To", so I opted to take some pics.

I also know several folks recommend MAS cleanings periodically, as well, so I cleaned those while I had them out.

The Throttle Body "Flap" is not very accessible to "Open and Close" during the Throttle Body Cleaning Procedure , so I ended up just with the "Standard" Atomized Cleaning, Misting the material into the body neck.

Since it is recommended to do the cleaning with the engine WARM, what I did was disassemble as much as possible with the engine COOL, just to make life easier.

This is a "Four Part" Cleaning: MAS, Throttle Body, Fuel Injectors, and Fuel Tank/Lines

Re: Photo DIY- Complete Fuel System Treatment

Did you notice any changes before and after?

Beautifully written. Your precise, medical terminology brought a smile to my face as you applied it to an automotive repair.

Bravo.

RE: Photo DIY- Complete Fuel System Treatment

No experience with the others, but 44K is the only fuel system cleaner I recommend to anyone. It started with my hearing form trusted folks like you did that, "This is the only one that's not snake oil". But my "Ah-ha" moment was with the '84 Honda V65 Sabre. Pulled it out of storage one spring and had a dead cylinder that I could not get to go away. Good spark, etc, I knew the problem was in the carb and was looking at a rebuild. As a last ditch effort I tried 44K. Put about 1/4 of a can into the full-of-new-fuel tank and started the bike. Let it warm up, reved it a little. Two minutes, three minues pass...and I'll be damned if that cylinder isn't starting to fire once in a while. Four minutes, five minutes more idling and a little more revving, and before too long, it's running perfectly normally. I was convinced. I put the rest of the can into the gas tank of the van, and now I treat the van every spring. This is my first GM product that's going 200,000 miles and still running perfectly.

Thanks for tanking the time to demonstrate this one Patrick.

All the best,

-Dave G.

Re: Photo DIY- Complete Fuel System Treatment

Dave, glad to hear another "real life" testimonial of the magical Hoodoo-voodoo powers of the BG line.

I have tried to figure a method where I can run the injector cleaner into the Klunkerwagen, but everyone I have queried swears you cannot do such a thing with a mechanical injection system.

Oh well....
