All the lockers are working! (Lots of photos and one video)

For once I'm not seeking help - just wanted to share with y'all that I finally have fully functional lockers.

When I bought my G last year neither of the lockers worked. It all came down to neglect and stupidity.

The feed hose was cracked and dead, the rear locker hydraulic line had rusted away, and the master and slave cylinders needed to be cleaned since they had water in them.

Here's a re-cap of what I had to do...

Hey!

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to document your work.

I'm curious, since I just finished rebuilding my Locker Masters.... All you did was CLEAN the inner workings, and did not need to use new seals, etc??

The reason I ask is, I think my FRONT slave is not working correctly, and need to R/R it... I was "going to" buy the rebuild set. Perhaps its worth simply CLEANING the system out?

Correct! I simply cleaned and then use a two stone brake cylinder hone (link to the part I used from NAPA) with a bit of oil to help smooth the sanding. The seals were not damaged and I was able to re-use them. I was VERY lucky.

I used a cereal cardboard box as a new gasket material between the locker bodies (cylinder and the finger mechanism). I also bought some new bolts and tapped/cleaned the threads.

Either way, you are going to have to take the lockers apart - try cleaning and honing first and reassemble and test (no reason to bolt back onto the axle though). If the seals are ripped/damaged then you should replace, of course, but at least the locker will already be disassembled!

Honing the cylinder seems to be the real trick - it has to be as smooth as glass. I've read that if there are any pits you can 'fill' them in with some epoxy and then re-hone.

Just be prepared for some goopy poo when you take them apart.

The irony here is that I've read all of your DIYs and here you are thanking me!? Check out the flickr set as there are loads more pictures. I may not have any/many descriptions but I try to photograph everything.
