Tube is 2" dia steel, 0.125 wall

brackets are 0.3" from cold rolled steel plate

Finish was sanded 120 grit and clear coated. I like the natural finish.

They were welded to Bottom sliders I bought from g wagon accessories.

Re: Side rock sliders DIY

Nice clean install.
Did you close off the ends of the pipe (can't tell from the photos).
Did you treat/coat the inside of the pipe as well to prevent rust?

Re: Side rock sliders DIY

Yes they were closed with welded end caps.

The tubing came slick with oil inside and out, from industrial metal supply.

...and nothing rusts in AZ.

I'm tempted to connect bottom slider and nerf bar with some perforated steel grate. I think that would look cool.

Weight for no reason though, probably make a lot of noise on the highway.

RE: Side rock sliders DIY

These are bolted to the frame, correct? The body can move up and down quite a bit with off-road impacts.  How much gap did you leave between the body and the tube?

Re: Side rock sliders DIY

They are welded to the bottom sliders, which are bolted to the body at the step mount points.

There is about a one inch gap.

Re: Side rock sliders DIY

Exactly what Im planning to do! Im surprised we dont see them on all sliders. I like Karl's step too. But this is simple and strong. Good job.

Did you make the other part of the sliders as well?

Re: Side rock sliders DIY

What other part are you referring to?

Anyone notice my home made front mud flaps? :D

I just welded a mount to Karl's slider and got some rubber sheet from industrial metal supply cut to size.

Re: Side rock sliders DIY

I think round beats square for sliding off of rocks, but they look good and they look like they would do the job.

What is the gas can spout looking tube behind the slider?

Re: Side rock sliders DIY

I think that's an exhaust for either an Espar or Webasto engine heater.

Cool. Never herd of a gas engine heater.

In this case it´s a Webasto Airtop 2000 fixed inside the truck to heat the cabin,- also a Webasto fitted in the engine bay to preheat the engine coolant (very commonly used in Diesel trucks, my G400 CDi have one, also my VW Touareg TDI).
