Unimog 416 Air Connections (For Tools)

Hi,

On the back of the 416 Unimog are a couple of Air Connections, which I believe can be used to run air tools. I have a Air line (for pumping up tyres) that I an connect, but no air comes out.

Is there a trick to get them working? I.E do I need to pump the brake pedal or something?

RE: Unimog 416 Air Connections (For Tools)

I know that those connections are for air brakes on the trailer, and that one side is for the emergency brake air supply, and the other is the operating supply. One side should be supplied by a valve off the emergency brake lever inside the cab, while the other should be active while pushing the brake pedal... at least that is what I remember from my last 416 (which I had about 6 months ago), it had shut off valves in the lines somewhere, but I can't remember exactly where. At any rate, the brake pedal powers one and the emergency brake handle powers the other. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Ben

The tyre/tire filling hoses are for use with the fittings on the air tanks.  Is that where you are trying to get air?  If not, please take a photo or two and post it up for us.

The trailer connections on the rear are called glad hands and they work just the way Ben mentioned.

Thanks,

Thanks. The air line that we have connects to one of those Glad Hands on the back.
They have plastic covers on them that swivel up. one cover(Right) is red, the other(Left) is white.

I was looking at them the other day and the white one has no valve or whatever in it , but the red one seems to be a air switch of sorts. If i swivel the red cover out of the way and press on it then air comes out both lines.

Sorry to be vague about it all, its in getting the brake calipers rebuilt at the moment (on of those jobs i prefer to leave to professionals) so as soon as I can i will try and get some pics.
