ebay 1968 404 Unimog

Anybody know anything about this mog? It is the first one that I have seen advertised by a Canadian on ebay --- hence I would not have to cross the border with it and all the problems that could entail. Is the price reasonable for the condition? I have to admit that I am a relative neophite with Unimogs?

Thanks for your advice.

RE: ebay 1968 404 Unimog

Arthur, for a swiss mog, it's not the prettiest example I've seen. The Swiss mogs, usually, are immaculate. This one is slightly higher miles than is usually seen. I imagine it was imported a few years back and has not seen the pampering care of the swiss military in some time. It has some surface rust that I see in some pictures. The starting bid of $8500 CD is ok, I'd personally try to talk him down a little for the reasons mentioned above. I would expect a sweet swissie to go for around $9000.00. How close do you live to this 404? If you go check it out let us know and we can point out the key items to look at. -James

BTW, I hope that isn't too negative. Personally I'd consider it a worthy investigation. Just do a little home work as to what else you could buy for the same price. You might be able to find a nicer 404. Be sure to look at a few key items on the truck to check their integrity so you don't get screwed.

We paid $7,500 in 2000 for a nice one and sold it in '06 for $7,000. Great inline six engine. Tires run about $200 each. Carb rebuild $100.
