I went to do the Rears on the W460 (which I had Completely Re-Built the Rear brakes not tooo long ago), there was NO Fluid coming out!!! What the??? After monkeying around for a while, I have a look at the Rear Brake Pressure Proportioning system, only to find the "Link" Rod Hanging in the Breeze. The Lower "ball in cup" portion was destroyed. So I got a new one, and adjust the new rod to the same length as the old one.. All seemed "OK". But, during my routine "Heavy Braking Testing", I was never able to "Lock-Up" the Rears. Soooo, I decided this year to do some more Formalized testing. What I wanted to do (as a curious Scientist), was compare the "Indirect" (Gestalt, Ballpark, Spit-Ball) value, versus the actual Direct, MEASURED Pressure Values. I have included an Excerpt from the Old Manual for the Reference Values. Since the Photos were not very Clear, I thought I would bring some "Color" Light to the Subject. To my Surprise, the "Spit-Ball" Figure of 184mm (for "my" Truck) was Spot-On as confirmed by the Direct Measurement. Is this just all Mental Masturbation? Certainly NOT! After Adjusting to 184 mm, I was actually able to Skid All 4 Tires on Dry Asphalt, which I have NEVER been able to do previously. BE SURE TO BLEED THOSE BRAKE LINES WHICH YOU ATTACH TO THE TESTER!!!!!!! Since I was doing my annual bleeding anyway, I just followed with a Hydraulic Service. Early voting for G-AMG as most valuable member of the year has begun. 2. I am droooooling over your ATE brake service tools. That kit is very, very, very swank, Sir. 3. Does anyone know how similar the rear drum brake system on the W460/W461s are compared to the early W463s with rear drums? Edited by H1LM002G55 4/15/2013 12:38 AM | ||
