Photo DIY-Brake Bleeding a la Motive Pressure Bleeder

I know many like the "pump" method to bleed their brakes, I find it easier to do the pressure method, and it IS the recommended method per WIS, as is engine oil EXTRACTION.

Following my rear brake job, I opted to flush the whole system. It is at the ONE YEAR mark, anyway.

Please use gloves and eye protection, and please dispose of the fluid per you local regulations.

Do work at your own risk. If something breaks on your truck, please don't blame me. Think of this post as entertainment value only.

Be sure to correct the fluid level in the reservoir to the "MAX" line.

PLEASE NOTE! THERE HAS BEEN A SUBSEQUENT CHANGE IN WIS, WITH THE TORQUE VALUES UPDATED, AND THE BLEEDING SEQUENCE ON A 3-BLEEDER CALIPER NOW WITH A "SPECIFIED" SEQUENCE! SEE THE POST WITH DATE 10/05/12.

John,

Yes, same procedure, with one small variation. Since my post was for the W460 (rear DRUM brakes), your W463 model has rear DISC brakes, so just repeat the same procedure for both front AND back.

Fluid? Castrol LMA works A-OK.

Re: Photo DIY-Brake Bleeding a la Motive Pressure Bleeder

With regards to the front calipers and the three screws, did you mean to say "I did the top ONE first", or do you only open the one top screw for bleeding the dual circuits on the front?...I'm trying to bleed the whole system and I'm not sure which sequence to bleed the front.

Of course I did ALL 3,,, the "Top one first" was my own theory: "If" there were any bubbles, they will RISE, thus, my starting with the TOP one first.

I ran 80cc through EACH of the 3 front caliper Bleed Screws.

Re: Photo DIY-Brake Bleeding a la Motive Pressure Bleeder

Great DIY!

I finally got around to doing this today. I used a homemade power bleeder(garden sprayer mod). Old and nasty out new Castrol LMA in. Only snags were all but 2 bleeder screws were internally seized, not a problem using this method though.

If you are unsure of the previous maintenance, order a set of replacement bleeder screws before you start.

Re: Photo DIY-Brake Bleeding a la Motive Pressure Bleeder

Air Cruiser... Don't forget to do Your Differential Hydraulic System Fluid, as well!!

If your brake fluid was that bad.. I could only imagine the Diff. System fluid!

I recently did the Diff fluid on a G-Wagen owner/friend recently, only to have BROWN, cloudy fluid come out.

Good news is, Bleeding the system solved his "Spontaneously Disengaging Differential Locks" Problem.

Re: Photo DIY-Brake Bleeding a la Motive Pressure Bleeder

Did it at the same time. The Diff fluid was in great shape relatively speaking. The bleed screws even had their rubber caps on suggesting a recent service.

My brake fluid was BROWN, cloudy. Its quite possible that I have some corrosion or pitting internally, I think I will step up the service to yearly on this truck just in case.

Re: Photo DIY-Brake Bleeding a la Motive Pressure Bleeder

1069..... But they no longer produce them. There is a "Dash" modifier to the tool. -7, -9 etc. They come in 7mm up to 11mm, I believe.

Occasionally, I see them show up on Fleabay.

Also, you can try Samstag Sales:

http://www.samstagsales.com/stahlwille.htm#Brake

But, I'm not sure even THEY carry the tools any more.
